Ascorbate autoxidation in the presence of iron and copper chelates.

چکیده

Chelates can inhibit the iron- and copper-catalyzed autoxidation of ascorbate at pH 7.0. Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA or DETAPAC) and Desferal (deferoximane mesylate) slow the iron-catalyzed oxidation of ascorbate as effectively as reducing the trace levels of contaminating iron in buffers with Chelex resin. DETAPAC, EDTA and HEDTA (N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-ethylenediaminetriacetic acid) are effective at slowing the copper-catalyzed autoxidation of ascorbate while Desferal is ineffective. The ability to inhibit ascorbate autoxidation appears to parallel the rate of the reaction of superoxide with the iron chelate.

Superoxide ion as active intermediate in the autoxidation of ascorbate by molecular oxygen. Effect of superoxide dismutase.

The oxidation of ascorbic acid by molecular oxygen was investigated by optical and magnetic resonance methods in the presence and in the absence of copper and iron complexes. The results show that one superoxide ion is generated for each oxidized molecule of ascorbate. The effect of addition of Cu,Zn superoxide dismutase, which at concentrations higher than 10(-7) M halves the oxidation rate, i...

Response of morphological and physiological traits of canola (Brassica napus L.) to application of stabilized zero-valent iron nanoparticles under salinity stress

In order to study the effect of zero-valent iron nanoparticles on morphological and physiological traits of canola (Brassica napus L. cv. 'Hayola 401') under salinity stress, a research was conducted under controlled conditions in factorial based on completely randomized design in three replicates. In the first phase, the zero-valent iron nanoparticles were synthesized and in the second phase, ...

Site-specific cleavage of proteins and peptides promoted by redox-active metal chelates

by redox-active metal chelates has recently been reported. Rana and Meares demonstrated that an EDTA–Fe derivative, covalently attached to a cysteine residue of the protein, can mediate cleavage of the protein backbone in a conformationdependent manner. A different EDTA–Fe derivative attached to a protein has been described for the affinity cleavage of proteins. In these cases, cleavage of the ...
